Real weekly Covid-19 Bulletin

Priority Covid-19 Information (16th September)

Key points

  1. Local update in Tower Hamlets:
    • 208,698 residents have now been vaccinated with their first dose
    • 177,500 residents have had their second dose administered

  1. Healthy 12-15 year olds to be offered vaccine: All children aged 12 to 15 across the UK will be offered one dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech Covid vaccine. Even though the direct health benefit of the vaccine for this age group is small, as their risk of Covid is low, it is hoped the vaccine programme could reduce transmission at school, and therefore reduce disruption to their education.
    • It is expected that the first vaccines in England will take place by 22 September
    • Parental consent will be sought prior to vaccination
    • Young people do not need to take this offer if they don’t want to
For more information visit the government website.

    1. Booster Programme: Booster doses will be offered from 20 September to people originally in the first 9 priority groups and will be given 6 months after you received your second dose.
      • The NHS will contact people directly to let them know when it is their turn to get their booster vaccine
      • To find out if you are included in these groups and for more information about the booster programme, visit the government website

    1. Winter Flu Programme: The Government recommends as many people as possible receive a vaccination against flu this autumn and winter. This could help to reduce overall pressure on the NHS and protect against the possibility of a substantial resurgence in flu. The government has extended the list for those eligible for a free flu vaccination. The full list of eligible groups are:
      • Primary school children
      • 65 year olds and over
      • Vulnerable groups
      • Pregnant women
      • Secondary school children
      • 50-64 year olds

    1. 90% of people in intensive care are unvaccinated: Almost 90% of patients admitted to Intensive Care Units with Covid-19 in North East London are not fully vaccinated. Having both doses of the Covid-19 vaccination is your best protection against serious illness and even death.
