Feedback from our “Real opportunities for all” conference and AGM

We had a great day on 10 April for our “Real opportunities for all” conference, which incorporated our AGM and our Spring Local Voices network gathering. We had around fifty people join us for the event, together with six partners who brought information stalls.

It was good to welcome John Sharp onto the board of Real, and reappoint John Per. Members fed back that it was interesting to hear more about the full range of projects that Real has been involved in. If you’re interested you can see the slide pack that gave this information here.

We also had some really good discussions with all of our members on our proposed new strategy. As a user-led organisation it’s really important for us that we are led by our members. We had discussion groups on each of our four proposed new strategic objectives:

  • Disabled people have increased income and an improved standard of living
  • Disabled people are better able to live independently, express their views, and participate in their communities
  • Disabled people are better able to access services, facilities and activities that meet their needs
  • There is attitudinal change around disability.

We will be writing up the notes of the four workshops, and then the board of Real will sign off the new strategy and send it to all of our members and put it on our website. We will be using this as the framework for everything we do going forward and we will keep you both involved and informed on what we are doing to support these objectives.
