The role of the Steering Group

The Local Voices Steering Group was made up of local disabled people from Tower Hamlets who wanted to make a difference. They didn’t need any formal qualifications or experience to be on the Steering Group, but had to be able to commit to attending the meetings at different times of the day, and doing some work (with support, if required) with other members.

The Steering Group met every two months to look at the overall progress of the project. Steering Group members also had the opportunity to help manage specific projects.A member of staff at Real supported the Steering Group and all members to have access to training, supervision and support with any access needs.

Steering Group members made an important difference for disabled people across the Borough, and gained useful skills and experience for other roles.
